Description

Acyclovir is a prescription antiviral medication used in certain patients to treat outbreaks of herpes simplex on the skin (mouth, lips, genitals, anus), outbreaks of shingles (herpes zoster), and chickenpox.

Usages

Directions for Intake:

• Acyclovir is taken orally, as often as indicated in the prescription of your doctor
• One should take more fluids while under this prescription
• Finish the entire amount that was prescribed even after beginning to feel better
• Take any missed dose as soon as it is remembered. However, do not double the dosage of your medication at any particular assigned time
• In case of overdosing, seek medical attention immediately

Directions for Storage:

• Store this medication in a place away from moist, light and extreme heat
• The appropriate temperature for the storage area is between 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 15 to 30 degrees Celsius
• Also choose a storage area that is not easily accessible to children

Side Effects

Side Effects:

• Mild side effects of using this medication include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headache
• Severe side effects include mood or mental changes, blood in the urine, weakness or fatigue, and unusual bruising or bleeding
• Acyclovir may cause an allergic reaction to some users
