Description

Fluoxetine is used to treat conditions like: depression, anxiety disorders (panic attacks), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bulimia, and severe form of premenstrual syndrome (premenstrual dysphoric disorder).

Usages

Directions for Intake:

• Fluoxetine is taken orally, as often as indicated in the prescription of your doctor
• Finish the entire amount that was prescribed even after beginning to feel better
• Take any missed dose as soon as it is remembered. However, do not double the dosage of your medication at any particular assigned time
• In case of overdosing, seek medical attention immediately

Directions for Storage:

• Store this medication in a place away from moist, light and extreme heat
• The appropriate temperature for the storage area is between 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 15 to 30 degrees Celsius
• Also choose a storage area that is not easily accessible to children

Side Effects

• Mild side effects include nausea, headache, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, drowsiness, sweating, and upset stomach
• Serious side effects include loss of appetite, unusual weight loss, unusual or severe mental/mood changes, uncontrolled movements (tremor), decreased interest in sex, and flu-like symptoms (e.g., chills, fever, muscle aches, weakness)
• Unlikely but serious side effects include vision changes, trouble swallowing, swelling or white spots on the mouth and/or tongue, changes in sexual ability, and painful and/or prolonged erection
• Highly unlikely but very serious side effects include fainting and irregular/fast heartbeat
• Fluoxetine may cause an allergic reaction to some users

Precautions:

• Consult your doctor before taking Fluoxetine. Make sure to give your doctor a complete background of your medical history
• Inform your physician of any previous or present experience of having liver problems, kidney disease, seizures, heart problems, diabetes, and allergies to medication
• This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Activities that require you to be alert (i.e. driving or operating heavy machineries) should be avoided
• Liquid preparations of Fluoxetine may contain sugar and/or small amounts of alcohol
• Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of this medication
• If you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant, consult your doctor before taking Fluoxetine
• If you are lactating, it may be harmful to use Fluoxetine
