Valtrex

Valtrex is used to treat cold sores (herpes labialis) and shingles (herpes zoster). It is also used to treat genital herpes in patients with normal immune systems. It can also be used to control genital herpes outbreaks in all patients, including those with HIV.

Usages

Directions for Intake:

• Valtrex is taken orally, as often as indicated in the prescription of your doctor
• One should drink more fluids while taking this medication
• Finish the entire amount that was prescribed even after beginning to feel better
• Take any missed dose as soon as it is remembered. However, do not double the dosage of your medication at any particular assigned time
• In case of overdosing, seek medical attention immediately

Directions for Storage:

• Store this medication in a place away from moist, light and extreme heat
• The appropriate temperature for the storage area is between 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 15 to 30 degrees Celsius
• Also choose a storage area that is not easily accessible to children

Side Effects

• Possible side effects may include nausea, vomiting, headache, loss of appetite, weakness, stomach pain, and dizziness
• Valtrex may cause an allergic reaction to some users

Warnings

Precautions:

• Consult your doctor before taking Valtrex. Make sure to give your doctor a complete background of your medical history
• The elderly may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug
• Inform your physician of any previous or present experience of having kidney diseases, blood disorders, immune system problems (HIV disease, bone marrow transplant, organ transplant), any allergies to medications
• This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Activities that require you to be alert (i.e. driving or operating heavy machineries) should be avoided
• If you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant, consult your doctor before taking Valtrex
• If you are lactating, it may be harmful to use Valtrex
