Xenical

Xenical is is used to help significantly overweight persons lose weight. Xenical also helps to prevent regaining weight previously lost. Xenical (Orlistat) works by blocking some of the fat normally digested by the intestine.

Usages

Directions for Intake:

• Xenical is taken orally, as often as indicated in the prescription of your doctor
• Finish the entire amount that was prescribed even after beginning to feel better
• It is usually prescribed to be taken thrice daily during or an hour after every main meal
• Take any missed dose as soon as it is remembered. However, do not double the dosage of your medication at any particular assigned time
• In case of overdosing, seek medical attention immediately

Directions for Storage:

• Store this medication in a place away from moist, light and extreme heat
• The appropriate temperature for the storage area is between 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 15 to 30 degrees Celsius
• Also choose a storage area that is not easily accessible to children

Side Effects

• Usual side effects include fatty/oily stool, oily spotting, intestinal gas with discharge, bowel movement urgency, poor bowel control, and headaches

Warnings

Precautions:

• Consult your doctor before taking Xenical. Make sure to give your doctor a complete background of your medical history
• Inform your physician of any other prescription or over-the-counter medications that you’re currently taking, especially the following medications: cyclosporine, "blood thinners" (warfarin), drugs for diabetes (glyburide, insulin, metformin), and other drugs used for weight loss
• Inform your physician of any previous or present experience of having digestive disorders (malabsorption or cholestasis), low thyroid function (hypothyroidism), kidney problems (e.g. oxalate kidney stones, hyperoxaluria), eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia), and any allergies to medication
• If you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant, consult your doctor before taking Xenical
• If you are lactating, it may be harmful to use Xenical
