Zyban

Zyban is used as an aid for quitting smoking by decreasing nicotine withdrawal symptoms and the urge to smoke.

Usages

Directions for Intake:

• Zyban is taken orally, as often as indicated in the prescription of your doctor
• It is usually prescribed to be taken twice daily, for 7 to 12 weeks
• Finish the entire amount that was prescribed even after beginning to feel better
• Take any missed dose as soon as it is remembered. However, do not double the dosage of your medication at any particular assigned time
• In case of overdosing, seek medical attention immediately

Directions for Storage:

• Store this medication in a place away from moist, light and extreme heat
• The appropriate temperature for the storage area is between 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 15 to 30 degrees Celsius
• Also choose a storage area that is not easily accessible to children

Side Effects

• Mild side effects include dry mouth, headache, increased sweating, nausea/vomiting, constipation, anxiety, fatigue, and blurred vision
• Serious side effects include unusual weight loss or gain, palpitations, unusual weight loss or gain and trouble sleeping
• Unlikely side effects include tremor, dizziness, fainting, mood changes, slowed movements, difficulty urinating, decreased sex drive, and drowsiness
• Very unlikely side effects include seizures, mental problems, fever, muscle aches, and yellowing of the eyes or skin

Warnings

Precautions:

• Consult your doctor before taking Zyban. Make sure to give your doctor a complete background of your medical history
• Inform your physician of any previous or present experience of having seizures, head injury, brain tumor, heart disease, liver or kidney, disease, mental disorders, eating disorder, diabetes, alcohol dependence, any allergies to medication
• It is best not to take Zyban before bedtime
• Limit, if not avoid, the consumption of alcoholic beverages while taking Zyban
• This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Activities that require you to be alert (i.e. driving or operating heavy machineries) should be avoided
• If you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant, consult your doctor before taking Zyban
• If you are lactating, it may be harmful to use Zyban
• This may increase suicidal thoughts and bouts of depression
